Five wickets apiece for Fuller, Buckmaster and Barnes

Garboldisham Cricket Club scooped up three ‘fifers’ in Saturday’s matches (25 July 2015), one each for the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds. Rob Fuller took an excellent 5 for 33 in the first team’s decisive victory at Mattishall to leave them in a commanding position at the top of the Norfolk Alliance Division 1. The 2nds didn’t fare so well in their home game against Division 4 leaders Winterton although Jack Buckmaster took a very satisfying 5 for 49. And Peter Barnes produced a bit of his old magic for the 3rds with his mixture of looping and quicker deliveries that saw five Costessey batsmen trudging back to the pavilion. If you’re thinking that Barnsey suddenly looks 30 years younger and has grown a beard that’s because Peter wasn’t around when the picture was taken and so Gavin Barnes stepped in for him! Here’s another picture of Rob and Jack

This picture was taken by a roving freelance photographer called Shawn Pearce who must have been passing The Langley last Saturday 18 July and took these pictures of the 2nds against Dersingham. We’re pretty certain that this is Lewis Taylor knocking out his half century (55) for the 2nds who batted first and scored 215. Garboldisham went on to win the game by bowling Dersingham out for 137. There were wickets from Danny Philpott 4-32 and a couple each from Jack Peart and Paul Feavearyear. This was just the third win of the season for the 2nds but it lifts them comfortably out of the relegation zone into 6th place in Division 4 of the Norfolk Alliance. Well batted Lewi!

Phil McGahan captured this picture of Nick Asker scoring his half century for the 4ths against Sprowston C on Saturday 11 July 2015. Unfortunately Nick was out, caught behind for 51, just a few balls later as pictured below. The 4ths scored 204 for 8 and Sprowston were bowled out for 174.

Lydia, Megan and Emily have a great day in the field

Two wickets from Megan Hogg and a wicket from Lydia Raven plus some great fielding from all three, including a terrific high catch from Emily Evans and a boundary sprint and slide from Megan to stop a four, all helped the 4ths in their win against Sprowston on Saturday 11 July. Garboldisham had posted 204 for 8 but they managed to bowl the visitors out for 174.

Saturday 20 June 2015. Garboldisham v Acle San George Thomas played his first game for the 1sts and, as tradition dictates, he had to sing a song after the match. Here’s San’s great rendition of an Indian party song! Sunday 21 June 2015. Garboldisham v Dersingham And the next day, Phil Carr and Dick Culling play their first game for the 1sts… I reckon Dick gets off pretty lightly – but great rapping from Phillippe. Saturday 30 May 2015. GCC 2nd XI v Old Catton The Old Catton player plays and misses and a slower ball from Garboldisham’s Charlie Wright, takes out his off stump. Lewis Taylor is behind the stumps. A few seconds later and the batsman is on his way back to the pavilion. Old Catton went on to clock up 202 for 8. In reply, Garboldisham struggled with their chase and finished on 120 all out. Garboldisham 1sts v Mattishall, Saturday 23 May 2015 Wicket keeper Pascal Walker, slips Danny Cash and Tom Ling and gulley Andrew Whistler are poised and ready. Garboldisham had clocked up 248 for 5 but Mattishall were bowled out for just 88 from a fiery bowling attack that included 5 wickets for Andy Emms. In the background and poking through the trees, you can make out the Garboldisham Manor clock tower. In days gone by, players would use the clock, now obscured by trees, to time their matches and set their watches. Photo: Phil McGahan
