Match round-ups and pics for Saturday 7 May

Neville Kemp scored 106 not out and Louis Hart (pictured above) scored 66 to help steer the 4ths to victory over Beeston It was a mixed bag of results for GCC on Saturday with home wins for the 2nds and 4ths and away defeats for the 1sts and 3rds. Here’s a round-up of all the games: The 1sts travelled to Brooke. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat and were 226 for 9 after 50 overs. Kieran Pask was the pick of the Garby bowlers with 4 wickets for 49 runs. The 1sts fought hard to chase down Brooke’s total and captain Danny Cash picked up a half century, but with two key Garby batsmen missing from this week’s line-up (Kristian Williman and Henry Phoenix) the 1sts came unstuck and found themselves bowled out for 196 in the 44th over and 30 runs short. Meanwhile, back at The Langley, the 2nds were having more success. Rocklands won the toss and put Garboldisham in to bat. A sparkling innings of 73 not-out from Andy Freake and …

Historic day for Garboldisham CC

History was made at Garboldisham Cricket Club on Saturday 30 April 2016 when the GCC 1st XI played (and won) their very first game in the Norfolk Alliance Premier League. The 1st XI had topped the NA Divison One in 2015 to win promotion to the county’s elite league. Back in 1997 GCC had first dipped their toe into the Norfolk Alliance after having risen up from the depths of the Norfolk League, and so it was a very proud day on Saturday for Danny Cash, the 1st XI and the whole of the club to notch up their first Premier League win. 1st team player Gavin Barnes summed the day up nicely: “Unbelievable game of cricket today to be a part of. Such a big day in the history of Garby Cricket Club. So proud of all you guys! Great result.” You can read more about the game and the rest of Saturday’s fixtures here.

Four wins and a baby!

Photo above: History is made at Garboldisham CC as Kristian Williman opens the batting for the 1st XI in their first ever match in the Norfolk Alliance Premier League The club made an excellent start to the season with all four teams picking up a win. The day was rounded off very nicely with the brilliant news that First team bowler Rob Fuller’s partner Leanne had given birth to a baby girl! The 1sts very first game in the Norfolk Alliance Premier League turned out to be an absolute thriller that went right down to the wire. Visitors Downham Town CC won the toss and put Garby in to bat. Kristian Williman appears to have lost none of his good form with the bat from last season as he got the team off to a good start notching up 75 runs and the scoreboard was looking quite healthy at 100+ for just 1 wicket. But then the game was turned on its head as Downhams’ overseas signing N Kelly took a hat-trick. The scoreboard was steadied and Garby finished on 204 …

Welcome to Dan Constable, our overseas player

Aussie Dan Constable has joined GCC as our overseas player for the season. Dan is from near Sydney and will be playing for the first team as well as coaching the youngsters on a Friday evening and coaching in local schools. Dan has already had a session at Thetford Grammar School where he’ll be coaching year 10s on Tuesdays and years 4, 5 and 6 on Thursdays. His first session, which went down very well with all the pupils, focussed on fielding skills including throwing, catching and using the long barrier technique to stop the ball. We hope Dan enjoys his time with the club (yes, the weather will get warmer!) and we wish him all the best for the season.

Race night – this Saturday!

If you hurry, we’ve still got a few tickets left for our annual race night up at the club this Saturday 23 April! It’s our first social event of the season and it is a reliable way of raising much needed funds. Tickets are £6, horses £5 and race sponsors £25. Tickets are available from Club Chairman Robert Leech – please call 01953 498252 or 07770 427361 or email robert.leech@farming.co.uk. Please let Robert know how many tickets and/or horses you require. It’s not too late if you have, or know of, a company that can sponsor a race. This will be our first opportunity to introduce and entertain our overseas player who will be joining us for the season all the way from Australia. Let’s show him a proper Garby evening!

garboldisham.play-cricket.com

GCC would like to encourage all members to register with Garboldisham.play-cricket.com which is our ‘sister’ website which is run by the ECB and ourselves alongside our main website. Garboldisham.play-cricket.com is part of the ECB play-cricket.com initiative which has been rolled out by the ECB over recent years. It provides fixture information, submission of match score cards (which automatically update club, league and player statistics) and other general league administration in conjunction with The Norfolk Alliance and The Norfolk Cricket League. By registering, members will be able to access all their stats and averages and they’ll be able to fill out a ‘Match Availability’ sheet which captains will be able to view – this will make weekly team selection much easier. To register, you will need to sign up as follows: Go to garboldisham.play-cricket.com Click on ‘sign up’ in the top right corner Fill out the details and make sure that at the bottom, where it asks for ‘Do you wish to apply for membership of a site?’ you insert ‘Garboldisham CC’ by searching for it – eg.
