Racks helps put Swardes’ to the sword

Luke Rackham (pictured above from 2014) took five wickets for Garboldisham 1st XI to help secure a comfortable win over Swardeston Match results and round-up for Saturday 28 May 2016 GCC Firsts were at home to Swardeston. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first but a cluster of early wickets from Garboldisham had Swardeston on the back foot from which they never really recovered and they finished all out for 147 after 41 overs. Luke Rackham picked up a ‘five-for’. It took Garby just 24 overs to chase down Swardeston’s total with a final charge from Henry Phoenix (56 not out) and Jonny Wyatt (25 not out). Earlier in the innings it was good to see Aussie overseas player Dan Constable clock up 41 runs, and in a weird coincidence, Dan was very surprised to find the match being adjudicated by Martyn Pointer who had umpired him in a match last year at Manly Oval in Sydney, Australia! It turns out that Martyn, who had emigrated to Australia in 1988, moved back to Norfolk this year. That’s three wins now out …

Hat-trick for Hamish

Hamish Russell (pictured back row right) took a hat-trick this evening (Weds 25 May 2016) for Garboldisham U11s in their win over local rivals Rocklands. Each side starts with 200 runs on the board and bats for 16 overs in pairs with 4 overs per pair, and then 6 runs are deducted for every wicket taken with batsmen who are ‘out’ remaining at the crease. Garby lost just one wicket but the visitors lost 6 and so the net figures at the end of the match were Garboldisham 269 and Rocklands 244. Well done again to the U11s!

Close run game for U9s

Brooke U9s 60-5 v Garboldisham U9s 49-7, Sunday 22 May It was a very good performance from the youngsters, many of whom were playing their first hard ball match. The game was very tight and with two overs to go, Garboldisham only needed 9 to win. However, Brooke’s strike bowler returned and took two late wickets which turned the match in Brooke’s favour. There are lots of promising signs for the U9s going forward for the rest of the season. James Worby Pictured above: U9s team manager James Worby has a quick pep talk with a couple of the batsmen

Wins all round for GCC

It was four out of four yesterday (21.5.16) for Garboldisham CC with wins for every team! And there were centuries for James Worby and Jack Stevenson and a fifer for Dan Philpott. Here’s all the results and match summaries. The 1st XI were away to Fakenham who were last season’s Premiership champions. Garby lost the toss and were put in to bat and despite the loss of Jonny Wyatt’s early wicket for just one run, Kristian Williman and Henry Phoenix looked rock solid and they were 97-1 at drinks. Williman was dismissed for 65 but Phoenix carried on the good work until he went for 59. Captain Danny Cash pushed on and added in another 49 runs, and with handy contributions from Dan Constable (20) and Alex Hogg (17) plus a cluster of wides, the 1sts finished on a fairly healthy 249-8 after 50 overs. In reply, Fakenham stalled as they were contained by good bowling with wickets from Dan Constable (4), Alex Hogg (3), Rob Fuller (2) and Gavin Barnes (1), and the hosts found themselves bowled out …

Decisive victory for u11s

GCC u11s v Gt Ellingham u11s at The Langley. Sunday 15 May, 2016 Batting first Garby u11s notched up a hefty 160 runs off 16 overs with no wickets lost. Batsmen have to retire at 30 runs so the scoresheet read as follows: Elliot Harte 32 (retired), Jack Whitlam 34 (retired), James Davey 22* and Daniel Worby 26* with extras making up the difference. In reply, Ellingham were 43 for 5 off their 16 overs – so a big win for Garboldisham by 117 runs. The Ellingham wickets were shared between Ethan Murphy, Beth Champion, Ronnie Stevenson and Daniel Worby with a run-out from Ronnie Stevenson as well. Well done to the u11s! Daniel Worby, Elliot Hart, Jack Whitlam and u11s team manager James Worby

Big wins for 2nds and 3rds with Matt Allin hitting 171

Matt Allin (pictured above) hit a massive 171 runs at the Langley to help steer GCC 3rd XI to an easy victory over Northwold CC Match results and summaries for Saturday 14 May 2016 It was a sunny but very chilly day up at The Langley. The 1sts won the toss and put Cromer CC in to bat. Garby kept the bowling tight but the Cromer wickets were hard to shift and by the end of their 50 overs the visitors were 241 for 3 with their opening batsman Matthew Warnes batting through with 115 not out. It was a par score for this pitch and one that GCC felt comfortable in chasing down. However, Garby got off to a slow start and then lost the early wickets of Kristian Williman, Johnny Leech and Dan Constable for just 9 runs apiece and so scoreboard pressure gradually started to build. Henry Phoenix was ticking along steadily but when his wicket fell, and then Kieran Paske was out after facing just two balls, the pressure was really ramped up. Captain Danny …
