Inter-club under 9/under 11 friendly pairs match. Wednesday 22 June 2016 Due to all the call-offs for bad weather and the opposition not being able to field a team, the U9s have only managed to get one game in all season, so an inter-club friendly was organised to give the young boys (and girl) some much needed ‘match practice’. 16 youngsters turned out on an overcast evening at The Langley, the majority U9 but a few U11 to make the teams up to 8-a-side and they all did battle in a 16-over-a-side pairs match. The group were split into 2 fair teams and the nominated captains Jago Bucher and Rudi Howard walked to the middle for the all important toss, and when Jago called wrong, Rudi had no hesitation in bowling first. Many of the inexperienced youngsters were taking part in their first cricket match. Hardingham U15s v Garboldisham U15s, SNCL, Wednesday 22 June 2016 Garby opened the batting on a rather green pitch, and with a meadow of an outfield, it was always going to be hard to score boundaries. But it was no problem for Finlay M and Toby who ran well between the wickets and raced ahead eventually bringing up the hundred partnership without loss. Finlay played a stunning innings including a meaty blow to fire the ball for 6, which hit the obstructing oak tree and Toby was equally as good and they scored another 50. Finlay also picked up his first half century and they left Garboldisham in a great position as they both retired. Max and Arthur followed and continued the mood, smashing runs with ease. Arthur played a fancy reverse sweep and put the bowlers under yet more pressure to bring up a very respectable total of 136-0. Match reports by Danny Cash 1st XI v North Runcton Norfolk Alliance Premier League Saturday 18 June 2016 Garboldisham travelled to North Runcton on what began as a dull and miserable day. In typical fashion, skipper Cash lost the toss on a very damp wicket and Garboldisham were asked to bat. The innings didn’t get off to the best of starts with Williman removed for one when his off-stump was sent cartwheeling by the impressive Coote. Leech and Constable rebuilt the innings somewhat and the score progressed to 49 before a moment of madness from Leech: having firmly struck the ball towards the cover fielder, thinking he was Linford Christie, Leech called the overseas man through for a single. Turns out he was more like Agatha Christie and was run out by half a pitch length for 14. Constable and Hogg came to the crease and typically Hogg was in patient mood, happy to play the good balls and leave the bad balls, whilst Dan was looking to be a little more positive. Garboldisham U11s v Mundford U11s SNCL Sunday 19 June 2016 Garby 101-3 off 16 beat Mundford 64-5 by 37 runs. Garby lost the toss and were asked to bat. Oscar Skilleter and Ronnie Stevenson opened up and got off to a solid start before Oscar was bowled for a well made 16 that bought ‘Boom Boom’ Charlie Aldous to the crease. Yet again, Charlie played a match winning innings, batting sensibly on a tricky wet pitch, and hitting the bad balls for 4 and eventually finishing 22 not out. He was well supported by Ronnie (6), James Davey (7) and Daniel Worby (4 not out). The boys would have to bowl well to defend a slightly below par score. All bowlers did just that – bowling straight and disciplined and restricting Mundford to just 64-5 from there 16 overs. There was one wicket for Oliver Lambert and very impressive figures for Daniel Worby (pictured below) of 3 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets for just one run! Another win for this impressive young team. Garboldisham u15 v Swardeston u15 Wednesday 15 June 2016 The u15 boys were sitting top of the table and needed a win against Swardeston to extend their lead, continue their unbeaten run and gain breathing space between them and their close rivals, Diss. The game started well with Garboldisham batting first and forming a strong partnership, until Toby was dismissed for the first time this season, leaving Garby 28-1 after 4 overs. Oli and Finlay stacked up the runs with Finlay playing a spectacular cover drive for a one-bounce 4. But it couldn’t last as Oli was forced to retire as he raced to 30 and Finlay picked out a straight fielder. Garby were now in a spot of bother with two new batsmen – Arthur and George, at the crease. The situation got worse as George was run out and Garboldisham were 80-4. However Max and Arthur batted very well together and somehow upped Garby’s total to a respectable 126-4. Match reports for Saturday 11 June 2016 Rain stopped play at The Langley and both the 1st XI’s match against Old Buck’ and the 4ths game against Dereham had to be abandoned. The 1sts had won the toss and had put Old Buckenham in to bat and at one stage the visitors were on just 50 or so for the loss of 5 wickets but after the first rain break J Heaney steadied the Buckenham ship and he was on 87 not out when the game was abandoned. Out the back on the new pitch, Garby 4ths had batted first and had clocked up another hefty total with Harry Youngson scoring 74(?) and Toby Culling 50(?). The 4ths got to bowl just one over before the heavens opened. Peter Barnes had organised a very successful lunch where members had enjoyed some good food and cricket. GCC fixtures Saturday 11 June 2016 The 1st XI are at home to local rivals Old Buckenham who are 3rd in the league with Garby sitting 5th and only 4 points separating them. The 2nd XI are away to North Runcton, the 3rd XI are away to Hillington and the 4th XI are at home to Dereham.

The club has taken delivery of its new electronic scoreboard from ESU and it has been installed this evening (8.6.16) by Chris Davey and Paul Baker all ready for Saturday’s 1st XI local derby against Old Buckenham!
