Photo: Fin Penrose, Lewis Hart, Oli Campbell, Toby Culling (c), Max Elder,s George Southgate, Arthur Johnson, Harry Southgate After a strong performance in the group stages, and a win in the last 8, Garboldisham u15 went into the semi final of the Norfolk Alliance unbeaten where they faced Dersingham on Tuesday 16 August. Garboldisham won the toss and chose to put Dersingham into bat. Louis Hart and captain Toby Culling opened. Louis(1-12) bowled tidily and unsurprisingly made a breakthrough by bowling Chudley for 5. Toby (1-9) picked up a wicket of his own at the other end when Louis took a catch at mid-off. First change was George and Arthur (0-17) who bowled a tight line and built pressure. Garboldisham were in a good position and had Dersingham struggling at 31-2 after 7 overs. Nevertheless, Dersingham strung together a strong partnership and Cropley and Cotton both retired on 30. Garboldisham finished well and restricted their opponents to 99 for 3 after 16 when George Southgate ( 1-10 ) took an important wicket at the end. It was an …

Diss Express Friday 12 August 2016

As the 2016 season begins to draw to a close, GCC 1st XI captain Danny Cash spoke to the Diss Express. Here’s the full extract: Danny Cash has encouraged his Garboldisham players to not become bogged down by pressure during the final three weeks of their Dipple and Conway Norfolk Alliance Premier Division campaign. By the captain’s own admission, when the season got under way he and the rest of the squad would have settled for simply preserving their status within the division ahead of 2017. In contrast, ahead of Saturday’s derby clash away at Old Buckenham (1pm), eight wins this term has elevated Garboldisham up to second position, just 24 points adrift of leaders Brooke. One slip-up from the table-toppers would leave the door ajar for Garboldisham, but Cash is only concerned with his own team, rather than events elsewhere. “We just have to try to win our last three games and then see what happens,” he said. “It is just about us keeping doing what we are doing and making them win it. …

U17s season finally underway with win over Mattishall

Picture: Toby Culling takes 6 wickets for just 9 runs including a four-ball hat trick! On a lovely summer’s evening (Wednesday 10 August 2016) Garboldisham finally got their Under 17 SNCL season under way with a victory away to Mattishall, with the visitors batting first.  Culling (3) was bowled early to Fisher before Baker and Penrose got the scoreboard ticking, Penrose was stumped with the score around the 40 mark. Tommy Ling joined Baker at the crease and together put on an unbeaten 80 run partnership with Baker (48) and Ling (38), both not out. Mattishall bowled straight and fielded well to keep the score down to a chaseable target of 122 on a quick outfield. Early wickets were the key and Fisher (14) was caught by Ling off the bowling of Southgate in the 4th over. Davison and Gagen then batted well and the scoreboard rose to 70. Davison was then caught on the boundary for 25 off the bowling of Culling. This was a much needed wicket with the run rate getting out …
