The pitches were officially ‘put to bed’ for the season on Thursday 10 September. The contractor D Watson was hired to come and scarify the pitches, gather up the residue of ‘dust’ and dead grass, sew new grass seed and add a covering of fresh loam to help the new grass to grow ready for next year. In previous seasons the Club has done this by hand with a team of volunteers taking all weekend but this year the job was made a lot easier and was wrapped up in a couple of hours. The contractor, who also works for Lord’s and Edgbaston, had lots of praise for Andy Smith’s groundsmanship and for the Garby pitches, and he reckoned that they were some of the best he’s seen! Andy will continue to mow the pitches at fairly regular intervals throughout the closed season to keep them in tip-top shape ready for 2016.

Club Captain Danny Cash presented EACH (East Anglia Children’s Hospice) with a cheque for £1,000 from the club on Friday 28 August after the Junior Presentation evening. The money was raised from the proceeds of the Missundaztood gig held at the Langley back in July in memory of Jake Snowling. Thanks to everyone who attended the gig and helped contribute to this fantastic cause and thanks to Peter Barnes and helpers for organising it.

Danny and the lads sing along to ‘We are the champions!’ at the GCC end-of-season party at Lyng Farm Barn, Saturday 5 September 2015 Saturday night’s end-of-season party at Lyng Farm Barn was probably the best one for a good few years.  There were some fantastic fancy dress outfits including Cashy as Dick Dastardly, Rob Fuller and Danny Moon as The Only Gays in the Village and Stewie Taylor as Mrs Brown amongst loads of other great outfits. After a delicious fish and chip supper, the Muppits band rocked the room with a mix of covers from the 60s to the present day. Highlight of the evening was when Barnesey finally managed to get Cashy up on to the stage with the band playing the opening chords of Queen’s ‘We are the Champions’. Soon everyone was singing along in full voice in recognition of GCC First team winning their league and gaining promotion to the Premier Division. Garboldisham Foxes line up for the Norfolk u19s t20 Finals Day, Manor Park County Ground, Horsford, Sunday 6 September 2015 And so to Finals Day at Horsford where Barton Spartans (Ashmanhaugh), Swardeston Sharks, Fakenham Falcons and Garboldisham Foxes would do battle. In the first semi-final at 10.15am, Ashmanhaugh struggled to get a decent total on the board and were easily beaten by Swardeston. Going in to the second semi at 1.00pm, Garboldisham were probably the underdogs but Captain Henry Phoenix and the Foxes were right to be confident that they could go all the way – they’d come out of a high scoring final group game against Brooke where they’d clocked up a giddy 246 runs and they’d finished their group unbeaten including a victory against Swardeston (who qualified for Finals Day as highest runners-up). Henry won the toss, and with some dampness still on the ground but with the sun starting to shine, elected to field first. Monday 31 August 2015 So today’s wet weather means that we are Div 1 champions and are guaranteed to be a Norfolk Prem side next season. It cannot be underestimated as to how big an achievement this is considering that it was only five years ago we were relegated into Division 3. The achievement is without doubt my proudest moment as captain and as a club member and it is a great privilege to lead a side of talented players, but most of all a great bunch of lads to the top division in Norfolk. It is also a huge honour to be the captain of a club that is going places. We are lucky to have a great club spirit within GCC and it is abundantly clear that this isn’t just a huge achievement for the 1st team, but for Garboldisham Cricket Club as a whole.
