Garboldisham Ladies v Norwich 4 May 2015  Garboldisham 107 for 4. Norwich 47 all out Garboldisham win by 60 runs Garboldisham Ladies v Fakenham  4 May 2015  Fakenham 133 for 1. Garboldisham 74 all out Fakenham win by 59 runs Garboldisham Ladies started their season with two fixtures on bank holiday Monday. In the first game, Norwich put Garboldisham into bat. After a slow start and the loss of an early wicket, some great batting and quick running by the team led to a steady total building. A great knock of 39 not out by Jade Hoyte was the highlight of the innings. Emma Rogers (15) also chipped in with some valuable runs and Garboldisham reached a total of 107 for 4. Garboldisham fielded and bowled really well, including a great catch by Emma Rogers and a sharp run out by Hanna Free. Garboldisham comfortably won their first game after bowling Norwich out for 47 and got the day off to a great start. In the second fixture, Fakenham hit a bigger total of 133-1. Some top …

Youth and experience is a winning combination

St Andrews v Garboldisham 3rds (B)  NCL Div 2, May 2, 2015 St Andrews 150 all out, Garboldisham 3rds 152 for 4 For the season’s first game, Garboldisham 3rds sent a team of experience and youth against a very experienced St Andrews. Skipper for the day Peter Barnes won the toss and put the home side in to bat. Two GCC youngsters opened the bowling and Jack Simpson took two wickets in his first spell. Angus Pringle bowled steadily but any loose ball was soon sent to the boundary. Angus took a great catch off his skip’s bowling, then Tom Melvin, on his long awaited return to the club, took a further wicket. Youngster Findlay Penrose bowled a few tight overs before the elder statesmen of the team, Peter Barnes and Eddie Thorne, caused havoc to St Andrews tail with Barnsey finishing up with 5 for 19 and St Andrews 150 all out. Nick Asker and Eddie Thorne got Garboldisham off to a solid start putting on 46 runs before Eddie chopped on for 22. John Hogg came …

GCC U13s off to a winning start

Garboldisham U13s v Rocklands U13s  Norfolk Alliance, May 5, 2015 8-a-side, 16 overs Rocklands 75-5,  Garboldisham 76-1 Garboldisham U13s kicked off the season with a comfortable win over Rocklands in the Norfolk Alliance at a very, very windy Langley on Tuesday. Some great fielding and tight bowling from Garboldisham kept the Rocklands score low and saw them lose 5 wickets. Hannah Khan took 2 wickets, Haaris Khan and Bailey Farrant took 1 wicket each and George Self took a great run out. Overall the team’s fielding display was brilliant and there was some super wicket keeping demonstrated as well by Will Pettit. Bailey and Arthur Johnson began the run chase for Garboldisham. Arthur started straight away by hitting a couple of boundaries and getting the team off to a steady start. Despite some good bowling and fielding from Rocklands, Arthur progressed to 20 and Bailey batted brilliantly to have to retire at 30, a great knock for the beginning of the season. The openers got Garboldisham to a great position and George and Will finished the …

In memory of Yogi

Two minutes silence were held today in memory of Garboldisham cricketing legend Ian Melvin (Yogi) before the start of the first match of the season between GCC 1sts and Beccles at The Langley. Ian had been a huge part of Garboldisham Cricket Club for over 34 years but he died tragically in December last year. Season swings into action

GCC’s season starts today with games for all senior teams apart from Garboldisham C whose home game against Brisley has unfortunately been called off due to Brisley pulling out of the League at the last minute. The First XI are at home to Beccles; the Second XI (Garboldisham A) are away to the Norwich B team and the Third XI (Garboldisham B) are away to St Andrews. The forecast is chilly but dry with heavy rain not blowing in until this evening. It looks like the covers will be on overnight at The Langley because on Sunday we have a county game between Norfolk Ladies and Northumberland Ladies with Garboldisham Ladies captain Sarah McGahan in the Norfolk team. Sunday also sees a home friendly between Garboldisham and Fen Ditton on the other pitch. The action continues into next week with youth matches getting underway. On Tuesday 5 May the U13s play Rocklands at home and then on Wednesday 6 May we have two youth games taking place at The Langley with the U17s facing Diss in a SNCL 8-a-side, 16 over …
