U9s first game of the season

Garboldisham 232 v Topcroft 285. Sunday 10 May, 2015. Norfolk Cricket Alliance The Under 9’s kicked off their season this Sunday with their first game. This was a pretty fresh looking side with many of the players making their debut for Garboldisham. Nathan then went on to take an amazing diving catch off Lauren Rhind’s bowling. Henry Grey-Davies took the only other wicket leaving Topcroft with a score of 285. Jago Bucher and Ryan Woodrow opened the batting for Garby with both playing their first ever game and doing really well for their first appearance. Daniel Flatman and Henry Grey-Davies then went on to score 14 between them. The pairing of siblings Lauren and Jamie Rhind pushed the score on to 235 and the final batting pair of Daniel and Nathan took the …

Bittersweet memories

If we step back 32 years, the photo shows the GCC Bob Carter Trophy winning side from 1983. Mervyn Mitchell who sadly died last Wednesday 6 May after a short illness is pictured in the front row, second from left. Mervyn had been a loyal player, member and supporter of Garboldisham Cricket Club for more than 4 decades and he will be greatly missed. Older and younger club members will spot some other familiar faces in the line up – Chairman Robert Leech, past President Philip Southgate, John Hogg and Neville Kemp amongst others. And of course, one of the club’s finest players and supporters – a young looking Ian Melvin, who died last December, is pictured in the middle of the back row. Two minutes silence were held in memory of Mervyn Mitchell before the start of last Saturday’s game (9 May) between Garboldisham A (2nds) and Mundford at The Langley. The club flag has been flying at half mast.

Under 11s in close run thriller

Norfolk Alliance U11s league. 16 overs pairs Garboldisham 257 Hethersett and Tas Valley 259 Garboldisham U11s took to the cricket pitch in what can only be described as hurricane like conditions to play against Heatherset and Tas Valley. Both teams had a mixture of experienced players and beginners between them. Garby fielded first and taking the weather conditions into account, all players bowled really well. Harry Button took a run-out off the first ball of the innings and he then went on to take two more wickets later on in the game. There was also a great bowling performance from both James Davey and Georgia Casey who picked up another wicket for the team, leaving Tas Valley with a score of 259. After a quick rain break, Garboldisham batted and there were some great performances all round especially with it being so early on in the season. Adam Balding and Ethan Harris got off to a great start in their paring, scoring 7 runs between them and losing no wickets. Hamish Russell then went on to help his partner, showing her …

Olpin smashes it around the park for U17 victory

South Norfolk Community League. 8-a-side. 16 overs (reduced to 15 per side due to weather) Garboldisham U17s 131 for 2 v Diss U17s 101 for 3 6 May 2015 On a cold, wet and windy Wednesday evening. Garboldisham Under 17 team faced Diss in their first game of the new season. Captain Callum Olpin lost the toss and Garby were put into bat. After a quiet start the opening pair of Toby Culling and Callum Olpin soon clocked up the runs before Culling was caught for 12 off the bowling of Ross Eddue. Luke Hollend was next in and next out, departing for 10 after being bowled by Heaton. Joe Baker batted well and together with Olpin they pushed the Garby score up to 131 for 2 with Olpin finishing up with an impressive opening knock of 75 not out. In reply Diss started well with some good stroke play but were pegged back when Owen Blakely was caught lbw by Oscar Lane. Young and Eddue then batted well to bring the score to 70 before Tommy Ling bowled Eddue. Young …
