It was a mixed bag of results for GCC on Saturday with home wins for the 2nds and 4ths and away defeats for the 1sts and 3rds. Here’s a round-up of all the games:
The 1sts travelled to Brooke. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat and were 226 for 9 after 50 overs. Kieran Pask was the pick of the Garby bowlers with 4 wickets for 49 runs. The 1sts fought hard to chase down Brooke’s total and captain Danny Cash picked up a half century, but with two key Garby batsmen missing from this week’s line-up (Kristian Williman and Henry Phoenix) the 1sts came unstuck and found themselves bowled out for 196 in the 44th over and 30 runs short.
Meanwhile, back at The Langley, the 2nds were having more success. Rocklands won the toss and put Garboldisham in to bat. A sparkling innings of 73 not-out from Andy Freake and 49 from Dan Philpott, helped the 2nds to a total of 203 for 7 after 45 overs. Rocklands were then restricted to 180 for 8, to seal victory for Garby. The Rocklands’ wickets were shared between Ben Asker (2-22), Fevs (2-25) Sean Taylor (2-40) and one each for Jimmy Gooderham and Dan Philpott.

Andy Freake 73 not-out
It was a glorious warm day in early May, but for the 3rds it was total meltdown in their game at Castle Acre… The hosts batted first and scored 243-8 after 45 overs. In reply Garby were just 25 all out. Not sure quite what happened but the Castle Acre bowler Elliot Whiting took 8 wickets for 7 runs…
The 4ths got off to a good start to the season in their home game against Beeston. Batting first, they totalled 247 for 6 with a century from Neville Kemp (106*) and a very impressive maiden half century (66) from youngster Louis Hart. Beeston came close in their chase but not quite close enough, and they were bowled out for 230 or so.
