The GCC six-a-side team got their Breckland Indoor League 2015/16 campaign off to a great start with a close win on Sunday 1 November against Thetford at Thetford Leisure Centre. The team line-up was Rob Fuller (Capt), Paul and Sam Baker, James Worby, Gavin Barnes and Paul Feavearyear, and it was a hat-trick from Fevs that turned the game in Garby’s favour.
Garboldisham are the 2014/15 Breckland champions having beaten Old Buckenham in the final back in January this year. Here’s a link to that story. The league is split into two groups of four teams – Thetford (Garboldisham, Thetford, Mundford and Old Buckenham) and Swaffham (Dereham, Swaffham, North Elmham and Bradenham) with the winner and runner-up of each group going through to finals evening on 3 January 2016. Each group plays opposing teams twice. Next Sunday, Garby will take on Mundford. You can find all the fixtures here.
Once you get the hang of the rules and scoring, indoor cricket is great fun and is played at a fast pace. Each innings is 12 overs with players batting in pairs of 4 overs each. If a batsman is out then he stays in but 5 runs are deducted. Runs are scored for running between the wickets with additional runs being awarded for different walls being hit. Here’s a full copy of the rules.
Garboldisham have a good track record with indoor cricket and of course, Garby Women won the Norfolk Women’s Indoor Cricket League back in March. Here’s the link.
