GCC player stats now online

Player statistics for the 2015 season are now available online. Simply go to the information bar in the right hand column and you’ll find them beneath the League Table links. If you’re viewing on a phone or a tablet in portrait mode then you’ll find them after the news stories. At the moment we just have the stats for players in the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds but we hope to have the 4ths included very soon. The stats have been carefully compiled by Dawn Briggs, our 1st team scorer and Dawn will update them every fortnight. Do let Dawn know if you spot any anomalies.

4ths top NCL SoC table!

OK, so the 4ths (Garboldisham ‘C’) may well have had a bad start to their season sitting at the bottom of the Norfolk Cricket League Division 4 West with a minus score, but, did you know that they are currently top of the NCL Spirit of Cricket league table. Home teams are awarded Spirit of Cricket points by the visiting team for their hospitality and for playing a match in a ‘truly sportsmanlike’ manner. So well done so far to the 4ths for their good grace. It’s also good to see that the 3rds (Garboldisham ‘B’) are sitting in 11th place in the SoC table. Garboldisham ‘C’ Captain and GCC Chairman Robert Leech is confident that the 4ths will soon get back to their winning ways and start to climb the league table after their very unfortunate season’s start when 25 points were deducted for cancelling a match at short notice because of player unavailability.

Win for the Ladies at Gt Melton

Congratulations to the GCC Ladies team who, with only 9 players, had a good win last night (Tues 2 June) in a T20 match at Gt Melton. The hosts batted first and scored 88 for 8 with Georgie Dunkinson, Sarah McGahan and Hannah Khan taking two wickets each, Megan Hogg taking one, plus there was a run out. Garby chased down Melton’s score, but not before losing 6 wickets themselves in a closely fought match, to finish 90 for 6 and winning by 4 wickets. Leading Garby run maker was Emma Rogers on 19. Here is captain Sarah McGahan’s match report: In the sunny but extremely windy weather last night, Garboldisham Ladies played Great Melton in the TGS women’s league. Despite struggling to stand up, a good fielding and bowling display from GCC ladies led to Great Melton reaching 88 for 8 off their 20 overs. Some top bowling from Hannah Khan (on her ladies debut), Lydia Raven, Georgie Dunkinson, Megan Hogg and Sarah McGahan meant the wickets steadily fell throughout the innings. A great catch …

Picture of the Week

Saturday 30 May 2015. GCC 2nd XI v Old Catton The Old Catton player plays and misses and a slower ball from Garboldisham’s Charlie Wright, takes out his off stump. Lewis Taylor is behind the stumps. A few seconds later and the batsman is on his way back to the pavilion. Old Catton went on to clock up 202 for 8. In reply, Garboldisham struggled with their chase and finished on 120 all out.
